History
- The Institute for Leadership and Performance Improvement (ILPI)501 (c) (3) not-for-profit charitable organization was founded in 2014 by Dr. Marlon Mitchell to facilitate academic and leadership development of youth. The primary goal was to provide exposures and experiences for our youth with College and Career opportunities through a robust summer enrichment programs and year-round academic extracurricular activities. Our mission is to inspire and equip youth and community leaders globally with knowledge and opportunities in the area of STREAM, servant leadership and civic engagement. To date we have served over 7500 students in the city of Gary.
- The Gary East Side Community Development Corporation (GESCDC) 501 (c) (3) was founded in 2017 by Dr. Marlon Mitchell and Scott Upshaw to address workforce and housing needs in the city of Gary, Indiana. We provide vulnerable populations (Reentry, foster care, domestic violence victims, human trafficking) with the needed vocational training and wrap around services to become self-sufficient.
- We have grown our outreach to address the emerging social, economic, cultural, and educational needs of the diverse communities in Northwest Indiana area.
Projects
Our major projects are:
- the operation of an accredited workforce construction training program,
- the development of Professional Services Buildings and
- the operations of a housing panel manufacturing facility.
Our organizations combined are strategically poised to empower people and develop communities by creating a new narrative with confident, competent, and committed people who live, work, and play in GARY.
